CLAUDIA & MRS LADERMAN

Claudia's brief:

"Claudia is a girl in her twenties. As a child she was left alone to develop with little parental guidance and through her relationship with T.V. movies developed an unhealthy relationship with Horror films, believing this to be the way life really is. All the scenes take place in various parts of Claudia’s apartment, which is European in style with  a great deal of kitsch décor. She is agoraphobic and is kept in touch with the outside world by her neighbours who provide her with her every day requirements.  

She models herself on a variety of girls often twisting her look to suit whichever film she is watching at the time and there is often  a nod to the main character in the current film within her appearance. The script portrays her as psychotic and there is always the feeling that although her character is scripted/can be seen as humorous, danger is just around the corner.   

However all this is normal to Claudia and she is of a cheerful disposition in this mad world of hers."

Mrs Laderman's brief:

"Claudia’s neighbour in her 40’s. She alternately changes into a variety alter egos and is Claudia’s friend and confidant. Living in the apartment opposite, she was Claudia’s only link to the outside world. Although they are friends there is suspicion that Mrs L’, has designs on Quentin. In fact she has designs on Claudia."

Claudia's brief fits well with American Horror Story - Hotel, because similarly to how Claudia is alone, Elizabeth (Lady Gaga) is also too alone in the sense that she is stuck in the hotel. Most of AHS takes place in the hotel, similarly to how the whole of Claudia & Quentin takes place in parts of Claudia's apartment. Claudia has an unhealthy relationship with horror films and believes that they are the way life really is. So when she began watching American horror story she began to believe that with a little help you can love or kill anyone you please. 

She is an agoraphobe so doesn't have any connections with the outside world. Due to this, her only friend and neighbour Mrs Laderman visits her and shares the same love of horror films. Due to the unhealthy obsession with them and no knowledge of the outside world, Claudia and Mrs Laderman copy events that happen in horror films. So once they both began watching American Horror Story hotel, the two both twist their personalities to match two of the characters in the programme. 

Claudia becomes a lot like Elizabeth who is a glamorous but deadly creature who lives on an unhealthy diet of blood. She is very fashionable and very dangerous. Claudia moulds herself into Elizabeth by dressing like her and killing anyone that came into her apartment. Mrs Laderman moulds the character of Hypodermic Sally McKenna. Sally is a ghost junkie who is a permanent resident of the Hotel Cortez. Sally is a drug dealer and has very dark fantasies. Mrs Laderman begins to take heroin after watching the programme and too, starts having dark and dangerous fantasies which involve murdering, similar to Claudia's character. However, due to the intake of heroin, Mrs Laderman becomes very confused about who she is and ends up moulding herself into both characters. In result of this she bites Claudia on the neck, leaving a horrific bite mark covered in blood.

Claudia 'SLIPPING'

I have chosen the word slipping for Claudia. Claudia usually morphs her favourite characters from the Horror TV series or film that she is watching and gets Mrs Laderman to almost mould into her follower and do as she does (in this case become a character from a horror series or film). She is usually in control of the situations and decides who is going to be who. However, as Mrs Laderman starts becoming confused about who she is told to be and who she is, she becomes more powerful and causes Claudia's power to slip and become less important. In result of this Claudia ends up getting bitten by Mrs Laderman. 



Mrs Laderman 'TASTE'

I have chosen the word 'taste' for Mrs Laderman as I decided that as she gets confused about what character she is morphing into, she gets carried and bites Claudia on the neck and drinks her blood. Therefore she has a taste for her blood.
